Popular Breakfast Recipes Around The World: Top 5 Favorite Breakfast Recipes
Are you tired of the same ole bacon and eggs for breakfast?
Want to try new and exciting breakfast recipes but was afraid to ask? Well, let me take that fear away from you.
My family and I love to travel and when we travel to new places, we like to experience the culture. Breakfast has always been a key meal in our family so naturally, we like to find out what each culture’s breakfast recipes have to offer.
I will start your curiosity off with the following three authentic breakfast recipes:
1) Mexico – Atole (A Warm Creamy Breakfast Drink)
This is a delicious drink and it is also very satisfying. This is one of the most popular breakfast drinks in Mexico. I was told that people in Mexico drank it all the time.
It is a thick drink as the drink is thickened with Maizena (corn flour or corn starch). I’ve been to Mexico four times so far and I only discovered Atole on my most recent trip. My wife and I had a cup each for breakfast and it was divine.
The natives in Mexico also use Atole to calm the stomach because it is alkaline based and as an added benefit, the flavored smell can provide you with some aromatherapy. I would have to concur as it was quite relaxing having our Atole and listening to the waves. It probably didn’t hurt that we were on vacation!
2) Ukrainian – Bulochky (Ukrainian Buns or Loaf)
Breakfast food items vary according to the region in Ukraine and some foods are available in certain seasons only. This breakfast recipe is brought to me by a very kind and good friend. Her family is from Ukraine and this recipe is a basic meal.
For breakfast, these Bulochky can be baked individually like buns or in a loaf pan. You can serve buns warm with jam, butter or honey.
A typical Ukrainian breakfast recipe will include Bulochky with sliced aged cheese or fried eggs served sunny side up and topped with sour cream.
For a heartier breakfast, Bulochky is served with some potato pancakes, breaded veal cutlets, tomatoes, and cucumbers. The natives in Ukraine eat this meal before doing heavy manual labor work. I would eat it because it
is delicious and satisfying.
3) Malaysian – Roti Canai
I lied… Roti Canai is not a breakfast recipe, it is suitable for any time of the day. The difference between breakfast and supper or any other time is what you put on it. Malaysians enjoy this with their favorite curries any time of the day.
For breakfast though, I tend to dip it in sugar or condensed milk. Roti Canai is thin and fluffy at the same time and it tastes outstanding. It is by far one of my favorite snacks. Roti Canai is served in small mom and pop shops throughout Malaysia.
There was this one place in Kuala Lumpur that sold many different varieties of Roti Canai but the life of me, I can’t remember what is the name of that store. I guess the family will have to make another trip to Malaysia to find it!
I hope that I’ve given you a ‘taste’ of some popular breakfast recipes around the world and I sincerely encourage you to give it a try. Who knows you may find that your next favorite breakfast recipe may be coming from Ukraine.
Breakfast Recipes – My Top 5 Favorite Breakfast Recipes
There are so many choices for the most important meal of the day but when it comes down to it, these are my top 5 favorite breakfast recipes. Although they are numbered, they are in no special favorite order.
I just love these breakfast recipes.
1) Potato Pancakes.
This breakfast recipe is really great comfort food. With the potato flavor, its taste is just satisfying. There are so many options and depending on how I feel, there are just so many things I can do with it. If I am in the mood for something sweet, I would add some apple sauce or syrup.
However, if I am looking for a more savory dish, I would add some sour cream or cream of mushroom soup as the topping. Even without anything on the side, potato pancakes make for a nice starter in the morning.
2) Hashbrown Casserole
I love hashbrown casserole because it combines all the goodness a hashbrown has to offer with cheese, chicken, sour cream, and other delicious additions. For days that I need a big breakfast with different classifications of food, this would be the one.
Make this recipe the night before and just heat it up either in the oven, if you have time, or in the microwave, if you are running out the door.
3) Eggs Benedict
This is one of my favorites because there is just so much that goes into Eggs Benedict. It isn’t your typical eggs and toast breakfast because this one has a poached egg on top of an English muffin and is topped off with Hollandaise sauce.
Not to mention the good that the cheese and ham or Canadian bacon can add to the ensemble. No doubt it is the perfect combo of breakfast ingredients.
4) Belgian waffles
Waffles are great because they are crispy and it is yet another recipe that I can experiment with. Belgian waffles are easy to make and there are so many things that go great with it like cream, fruit, or butter.
In my breakfast recipes collection, you will see the difference between regular waffles versus the Belgian waffles.
5) Homemade pancakes
I included homemade pancakes on the list because it is something that I can’t find anywhere else. There is just something about pancakes that are made from scratch that are better than the commercial mix.
On Sunday mornings, this is one of the most requested recipes in my household. My daughter loves to help measure out the ingredients and because she gets involved in the making of the homemade pancakes, she loves eating it as well.
What a concept to have your children assist in making the recipe, and in turn, they will most likely assist in eating it too. This technique cures the picky eater syndrome.
So there you have it, these are my top 5 breakfast recipes. No doubt you’ll wake up to a healthy (and delicious) start. I hope this will inspire you to come up with your very own top 5 breakfast recipes. If these recipes that I mentioned here happen to be your top five as well, then we may just have something in common.
